Each Saturday in March La Parada will showcase fabulous and creative local women artists through receptions and workshops. During showcase receptions you can meet the artists, enjoy free refreshments, and find a special treasure while you support local women artists! Workshops offer very cool opportunities to express your own creativity with other talented ladies! You will also enjoy store-wide discounts and specials on vintage clothing & accessories during the entire month of March!

Workshop Felicia Montoya: Create Your Own Retablo
1:00 pm – 3:00pm La Parada Mercantile
Retablo is a term for a devotional painting using iconography derived from traditional Catholic church art. Traditionally, New Mexican retablos were painted by self-taught artists on pine wood with homemade gesso, natural pigments, and sealed with homemade pinon sap varnish or beeswax finish.
Create your own spin on the retablo with inspiration from the beautiful local and imported artwork available at La Parada. Supplies will be provided to create your own mini retablo.

Showcase Susanne Baca: Mosaic Tile Art

Susanne Baca has been creating mosaic art for six years. Although her work is contemporary, it is heavily influenced by the traditional Spanish Colonial work throughout New Mexico. Her work is created with found objects, hand made clay embellishments, and from time to time, hand painted on either tin or wood using acrylic. Susanne says, "I absolutely love the retablo. I have taken the traditional design and have created something all my own through mosaic. Art is my passion and I will continue to create and be inspired by by the wonderful Santeros and Santeras of New Mexico".

Workshop Antonia Montoya: T-Shirt Alterations!

Have you ever seen those super-cool boutique t-shirts? Antonia will walk you through the ABC’s of transforming that old 80’s concert t-shirt you refuse to give up – or that gigantic family reunion t-shirt that you thought you’d never wear because it didn’t fit into your “fashion wardrobe”! Bring a t-shirt, or buy one at the workshop and let your fashonista creativity shine with easy and fun ideas!

Workshop SweaterGirls Knit: Felting Workshop & Knitting
Fee: $15 1:00 pm – 3:00pm La Parada Mercantile
The SweaterGirls – Ramona and Chris will be offering an “embellish your knitted project” class to experienced knitters. You can add beautiful details to anything that you have knitted such as flowers, simple embroidery and lovely edging. Please bring fingering or worsted weight yarn, a blunt tip tapestry needle, size 2 needles (for finger weight yarn or size 7 for worsted weight) and a project you would like to decorate.
The SweaterGirls are the first and only knitting school and supply shop that travels around in a 1955 Terry Trailer. Whether you’re a novice or experienced knitter, come by and check out all the knitting goodies they have for sale in their kitschy trailer!

Showcase Cynthy Sax: Fun & Funky Recycled Art

Whimsical, colorful, bright and cheery! You are going to love these fantastic recycled creations by local artist Cynthy Sax! Cynthy is a native westerner and self-proclaimed "urban hunter-gatherer/hoarder" and believes that the process of transitioning old, unwanted, or mistakenly useless items into fun and ascetically pleasing art adds joy to life. Transition, redefining, and coming full circle is what it is all about. It is good for the heart, and the planet, too. Come by and meet Cynthy and see all the wonderful pieces she has created just in time for spring!

The Pot Holder Queen will dazzle you with her fanciful designs! Donna uses vibrant fabric patterns such as: floral, funky, iconic, día de los muertos, and more! Come and choose your favorite pot holders and tortilla warmers out of dozens of vibrant fabric selections.
