The mom & daughter team, Pam Montoya & Cherie Austin, have brought their creative talents together to make La Parada a unique and eclectic shopping destination!

Where else can you find vintage lingerie, retro fashions, 50’s kitschy kitchen, distinctive jewelry, world crafts & décor, local arts & crafts, and unique gifts all under one roof? Bring your girlfriends, sisters, daughters, moms, and aunts and enjoy some creative shopping.

Felicia Montoya: On-Demand Screen Prints

Local artist, Felicia Montoya, is one of three artists who have designed Women & Creativity 2011 exclusive screen prints. Local screen print artists will be on site at La Parada from 1:00 to 4:00pm to “screen-print on demand” selected designs.

Bring a t-shirt, cotton bag, apron, etc. to screen print one of three cool designs. Or, you may want to purchase a retro item of clothing from La Parada’s cool vintage collection to screen print your one-of-a-kind garment! Screen print fee $10.

Fran Black: Folk Art Dolls

Unique, locally-crafted folk art dolls will be showcased during the month of March. These wonderful dolls are impressionistic representations of various cultures from around the world.

The style of clothing depicted is traditional day-to-day or ceremonial dress. The dolls are constructed of wood, stuffed with polyester fiberfill, wrapped with scraps of cloth and then dressed and adorned with handmade ceramic faces, jewelry and textiles from around the world, as well as found objects The textiles utilized for a doll embodying a particular ethnic group often originate in the area of the world being represented.

Join us for a fun hula-hooping workshop! New Mexico's only licensed hoopdance instructor, Candice Starr of Centerforce Hoops, will be leading an all-ages hula-hooping workshop and demonstration. March 26th is a night to delight the senses with art opening by Jade Leyva, menu sampling, and live music at La Parada’s beautiful new restaurant space (to be open soon).

Jade Leyva: Art Opening

5:00 – 8:00pm

Jade Leyva is a painter, potter, and writer who expresses herself through the lens of her vibrant Mexico City birthplace, European cultural influences, and a world of art and human inter-connectedness. Jade calls Placitas, New Mexico home where she continues her fantastic journey in art.

Jade has participated in numerous collaborative and solo exhibitions in Arizona and New Mexico; she was commissioned to create featured artwork for several major events such as ¡Globalquerque! 2009, and the annual New Mexico Wine Festival 2010; and she has a permanent public art in piece in Bernalillo City Hall.

Jade’s work will be showcased until June, 2011 and will be available for purchase.
